Who are you and what do you do?

It seems like the best place to start is to tell you a little about ourselves and our hobby!

In the real world, we are Laurah and Michael Jurca, a couple in our late twenties. Laurah's a teacher, and Mike is a stagehand and pizza maker. But on the weekends, we become Ceanag na Preachain and Murdaigean ap Preachain, Iron Age celts.

We are members of Clanne Preachain, a group dedicated to studying and reenacting the lives and ways of late-bronze and early-Iron Age celts. Clanne Preachain started many years ago as a spin off from the Society for Creative Anachronism. *Edit (6/29/2017): Since 2013, we have not been participating with Clanne Preachin, but have been focused on building our own group- Craobh Dearg (Red Branch).

Throughout the year, Preachain has two or three private events, and members also often attend events held by the SCA, or Society for Creative Anachronism. At events,we wear clothes from the time period we reenact, display the Arts and Sciences projects we've been working on, hold contests of armored combat, feast, and generally have a good time together! At an event, you adopt a persona from a specific time culture and period and play that person.

When we're not at events, we spend time researching the ways that Celtic people lived in the early Iron Age. Many people in Clanne Preachain are very talented at period arts, such as weaving, dying, cooking, metalworking, brewing, and many more!! We work on our personas, or the people that we choose to be when we are at events.

We've been active members in the SCA for about 10 years, and with Clanne Preachain for three years. This blog is about our lives as Celtic reenactors. We'll bring you tales of battles, events that we attend, pictures of projects and articles of interest. Stay tuned for more!!
